Hi everyone!

In a week's time, I'll be turning 38. And I have, again, failed to update anything online that would give people an idea of birthday presents to buy for me. (FOR ME! BECAUSE I'M IMPORTANT!)

So, if anyone wants to buy me a present, I've come up with a very simple thing that I'd like you to do. Follow these directions;

1 - Find something on YOUR wishlist in the kind of price range that you'd want to spend on me (or, if you see something that you want elsewhere, go with that).

2 - Buy it, and have it sent to you.

3 - Wrap it up if you want, but if you do, please open it for me on the 27th. I probably won't be there.

4 - Use it like it's yours. Because I'm totally letting you borrow it, OK?

5 - Forget that it's borrowed.

6 - I love you guys.

(7 - Want to donate to charity instead? Sweet!)

Hi everyone!

I know my posts delight and surprise everyone that thinks I've forgotten how to type, but once in a while I remember, usually when I have news of great import.

And today's news is: BEHOLD, I AM EMPLOYÉD!!

On Monday, I'll be starting work as part of the Activities Team at a nursing home in Plymouth. Which is Awesome.

I will now twirl off gleefully into the distance.

*TWIRLS!*

Hello! Just realised, I maybe should have posted this yesterday, or something...

I have a Large Beard. And, in 45 minutes time (2 pm, GMT), I'll be guided through removing it by anyone that wants to join The Banyard Unbearding event.

If you happen to be free, come along! If you don't, really, don't worry. This is just me, desperately checking that I still have a chin underneath all this ;)

Edit: IT IS DONE!! The beard has been removed, bit by bit, and the chronicle of its removal can be seen here! Right here!!

Hooray for Springwatch, apparently. Now featuring live webcams of baby birds, swans, baby birds, and a third type of baby bird.

Baby birds, sir, faaahsands* of 'em!

*(clearly more than a dozen)

Edit: Wait, why is the Wren Cam showing a snake... It's... It... I can't see the baby wrens being adorable, and there's a snake, and... OH THANK GOD they've just updated it with a Grass Snake Cam, and it took a minute for them to change the labels over. It's just gonna go lie down, I think.

And as is traditional, I'll make my Anniversary LJ Post. I'll keep it short *s*

Back at the beginning of 2001, I married a woman that I was deeply in love with. Today marks 11 years since that happened, and it feels like we're even more deeply in love. Which is awesome. And being married to her has made this the most outstanding decade-plus-one ever.

Actually... I think that's all I need to say.

So, yesterday we went to the mooovies. And saw 2 of 'em! Sherlock and MI.

Sherlock was bags of fun, as expected - a thoroughly enjoyable romp. Huzzah!

Mission Impossible was also exactly what we expected, right up until it Mission Impossible'd us.

Seriously.

I would try to explain? But my wife is far more eloquent than me. So, for that tiny handful of people that don't have us both as friends, here's her spoiler-tastic review of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

Your Spoilers, Should You Choose To Accept Them...

When my wife says "You're a terrible human being", a victory lap should not be the correct response.

...*goes for a second lap* :D

For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

"LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."

So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue.

Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users affected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation.

Edit: Like the pedant I am, altered wording to 'affected', because 'effected' is WRONG, DAMMIT! :P

Okay, people. I need you to take this viral, and fast.

We know someone in upstate New York who needs a good custody lawyer ASAP. I'm not at liberty to go into details publicly, but this woman is very afraid that her abusive boyfriend is going to get sole custody of her young child.  She's presently being represented by a public defender [edit: I may have the terminology wrong here, my understanding is that her lawyer was assigned to her rather than being someone she chose] who doesn't seem to care about the case, and she has very few resources left at this point. Her next hearing is on Thursday.

If you know a good lawyer in New York State who might be willing to take this case for a low fee or pro bono, or at least offer her advice or support, please let me know. If you don't know anyone, please repost this far and wide. As a mother and an abuse survivor, it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to contemplate a child being left in the hands of an abuser.

I can be reached at kythryne@gmail.com if you have any leads or want to help.

The internet can work miracles. Let's go.

Because I've not been tagged for a wee while, and, uhm… Meme! Tagged by thesme_01

Rules;
1. People who have been tagged should write their answers in their blogs and replace any questions they dislike with a new, original questions of their own.

2. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

1. List five things you can see without moving...Collapse )

And now, I tag anyone that wants to give it a whirl. Because I'm not 100% sure I have 8 people on my flist that haven't done this already ;)
